Washington State Bill Would Extend Tenant Protections After Trustees Sale

Rep. Nicole Macri

HB 2453, introduced in Washington State, would extend tenant protections to homeowners AFTER the trustees sale, requiring the purchaser of the home at auction to follow landlord/tenant laws for eviction.

UTA’s Washington Lobbyist, Holly Chisa, has met with the bill’s prime sponsor, Rep. Nicole Macri (D-43) in order to discuss the ramifications of the impact of applying landlord/tenant provisions to the DOTA and explain UTA’s opposition to the bill.  Rep. Macri’s interest is in addressing commercial properties, not private homes.  However, because the DOTA affects 1-4 occupancy, Rep., Macri still has expressed some interest in applying these protections.
