It is with extreme sadness that we report that Martin McGuinn passed away on November 20th. Marty died peacefully, surrounded by the love of his wife Pat, and their family. Marty served as UTA’s Corporate Counsel and defended trustees for his entire illustrious career.
“Marty was a true icon in the California default services industry,” said UTA President, Ed Treder. “He leaves an indelible legacy on the laws that govern our profession. He was a beloved colleague and friend to all of us. God bless you, Marty.”
“Marty was such an icon in the industry and helped get me involved with the UTA and then, the CMA,” said former UTA President, Robert Finlay. “It is such a huge loss for the industry and even a bigger one for his family.”
“I cannot remember a single instance when I called him to explain an issue to me that he did not get back to me within hours, with perfect accuracy and sage counsel”, said Mike Belote, UTA’s California Lobbyist. “Marty was truly one of the titans, with an unparalleled knowledge across trustee practice, bankruptcy, and much more.”
“He will truly be missed by everyone,” said Immediate Past President Cathe Cole-Sherburn. “Rest in peace, my friend.”
A Celebration of Marty’s Life will be held in San Diego in February at a date to be announced. A full tribute to Marty will be provided in the Winter Issue of UTA Quarterly.
