UTA’s California Lobby Day A Success

Twenty UTA members lobbied their California State Senators, Assemblymen and their Legislative Aids on the need to support ‘clean-up’ legislation regarding the foreclosure issue as well as to educate the legislature on the broader matter of, essentially, not creating more burdensome and troublesome laws until we’ve had a chance to clean up and judge the effectiveness of the legislation that has already been passed.

After a briefing by UTA’s California lobbyist, Mike Belote, the members met both individually and sometimes in groups with representatives to educate both Democrats and Republicans on the foreclosure issue from the trustees perspective.

The Association plans to make the Lobby Day event an annual event every March. “The event was terrific,” said Ron Roup, UTA’s Legislative Committee Chair. “It is empowering for us and more importantly, essential for the legislators to hear our reasoned perspective. They actually need input from us to fully understand the impact of their legislation on the mechanics of a nonjudicial foreclosure”

The day was capped by a dinner event with Senator Ron Calderon as the speaker, attended by thirty-four members. Senator Calderon has sponsored important legislation supported by UTA.
